Flags Unlimited sees orders for flags and banners of all shapes and sizes. Over our 46 years, we’ve created vast stretches of material for various sporting events, fencing for building sites, we’ve even created banners to cover media houses and fascia for stadiums. Large scale projects are part of life around here.
Every once in a while comes the opportunity to create a Canadian Flag on a large scale. So a request to create a Canadian flag for a 200’ flagpole in Ottawa, meant our team had to get to work. To determine the size of flag you should be flying on your flagpole, Flags Unlimited’s rule of thumb is that the length of the flag should be approximately one third (1/3) the height of your pole. That means this Canadian flag is 35’ x 70’!
That is not an easy undertaking. This Appliqué flag was cut, pieced and sewn together by hand. Just centering the red maple leaf required hours of work, never mind finding the floor space to do it! Flags Unlimited is no stranger to working on these kind of large flags though. The largest Canadian flag we have ever made was back in 2002 and it was 72’ x 144’. A gymnasium was used for the day to finish and pack it. This time, we have had to take over our neighbours warehouse space for the same reasons.
As Canada’s Flagmaker, Flags Unlimited takes pride in making high quality products made with a tremendous amount of care and respect. You can’t help but feel a strong sense of pride when you see this gigantic Canadian flag. It will be a spectacular sight to see this flag flying.
