“Flag It Forward” - Flags Unlimited Celebrates 60 Years of Canadian Craftsmanship, Pride, and Community
This year marks an important milestone for us at Flags Unlimited—our 60th anniversary. Since 1966, we’ve been proud to be Canada’s trusted flag maker, and as we reflect on where we started and where we are today, we feel immense pride and gratitude for the people, business and communities that have trusted us with the moments that matter most.
Our story began in Thornton, Ontario, when the Burke family founded Flags Unlimited in 1966. It was one year after the inauguration of the official flag of Canada, and the small company was founded to supply the nation with their new symbol. Flags Unlimited started by manufacturing appliqué Canada flags, carefully hand sewn with attention to every stitch. Nearly six decades later, that same tradition continues. Our appliqué flags are still handmade right here in Barrie, Ontario, a testament to the craftsmanship and pride that has always defined our business.
In 2019, Flags Unlimited was acquired by Brian Naish and Matt Skipp, ushering in a new chapter of growth while preserving the company’s legacy of quality and pride in Canadian-made products. When asked to reflect on the history of 60 years that is behind the Flags Unlimited brand, Matt Skipp, Co-Owner said, “Our sixty year journey is a testament to the craftsmen, creators, and dreamers who understood that a flag is more than a product, it’s a promise. A promise of quality, pride, and respect for the communities and country we serve.”
Today, we manufacture flags, banners, custom signage and more for governmental, corporate, local businesses and personal use, selling directly to customers and through retail partners across Canada. We are more than a supplier, we’re a partner Canadians trust.
“It is an honour to celebrate this significant milestone with Flags Unlimited. Sixty years in business is a huge accomplishment. Our community is grateful to be home to a company that has demonstrated dedication to helping Canadians proudly display their pride and celebrating the history of our national flag.” MP of Barrie, Springwater, Oro-Medonte Doug Shipley

2025 marked one of the strongest years in the company’s history for Canadian flag sales. With increased political discussion surrounding Canada–U.S. relations, Canadians responded by showing their pride and support for domestic manufacturing and flying the Canadian Flag proudly.
“Now more than ever, it is important to celebrate everything that makes Canada the greatest country on earth. Congratulations to Flags Unlimited on 60 years of uncompromising craftsmanship, quality and Canadian pride. Our government continues to support made-in-Ontario initiatives and success stories like Flags Unlimited.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford
We currently employ 50 talented team members in our office and manufacturing plant in Barrie, Ontario, whose skill, dedication, and passion have been central to the company’s long-standing success. We don't just make flags, we create high-quality, durable products that help communities, businesses and individuals stand out.
“Our longevity is the result of dedicated people and loyal customers,” said Co-Owner Brian Naish. “For six decades, we’ve gone beyond the standard, creating custom solutions that meet the moment, honour the message, and serve the people who place their trust in us.”
In celebration of this milestone and National Flag Day on February 15th, we gave back to communities nationwide with a “Flag It Forward” campaign. We generously donated Canadian flags to dozens of elementary schools across the country. All of the employees received a Canadian flag to give to a neighbour, friend or family member. Additionally, we gifted a Canadian flag and sweets to the first 60 customers who came into our retail store in Barrie Ontario on Friday, February 13th 2026.

“On behalf of the City of Barrie, congratulations to Flags Unlimited on 60 incredible years! Their flag-making business has grown and thrived here at home, creating local jobs and investing in our community. Their dedication has strengthened Barrie and supported generations of residents, a true example of local success.” - Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall
